  • The Standard Schnauzer originated from Germany and is the oldest of the three Schnauzer breeds.
  • The Standard Schnauzer makes a great guard and watch dog.
  • This dog is a medium-sized, squarely built dog.
  • It is lively but not restless if provide with enough exercise. Enthusiastic, spunky and affectionate. It is very bright, intelligent and playful. They are great dogs to travel with and are even good for apartment living.
  • Height: Males 18-20 inches (46-51 cm) Females 17-19 (43-48 cm)
  • Weight: Males 30-45 pounds (14-20 kg) Females 30-40 pounds (14-18 kg)
  • Depending on how you choose to keep the coat they could need grooming every 6-8 weeks.
  • The coat is not hard to groom, although it does need attention.  Comb and brush daily with a short wire brush to prevent matting.  They should be clipped all over to an even length twice a year, in spring and fall.
